Tell us something unique about you:

"My name is Francis Burrell; my friends call me “Franc.” I was born and raised in Houston, TX.  I spent around 6 years in foster care in the Houston area from the ages of 12 to19. Before that, I lived a life suppressed by hardship and scarcity.

Talk to us about your previous higher education:

I started out taking courses at a university, but the traditional college path and experience was not working for me as I needed to work to support myself.  My interest has always been in computers. When I was 20 years old, I moved to Boston, MA, and got my first IT job installing computer monitors. I was doing ok in the IT realm, but I was missing that little bit to get me over the top.

How did you find out about the best I.T. programs at El Centro College?

I got a technical degree (AAS or BAAS) around age 23, when I had just arrived in Colorado, and I heard about this online Network Administrator Support associate degree (A.A.S.) specializing in Microsoft Server Administration program that was offered through the Dallas County Community College District – DCCCD, yes, at El Centro College main branch, and it was offered 100% online. Wow, I did need this program and the flexibility of taking online classes at my convenience to maintain a full-time job and attend classes around my work schedule!

Reveal to us about El Centro College's exceptional I. T. Advisors and Counselors:

Less than 2% of foster children in America ever graduate college, but El Centro and DCCCD were there for me along the way. My advisor, Linda Savage has been there to encourage, coordinate my registration into correct courses, and to design my correct degree plan along my certificates. She helped me to choose the best modules, administer my degree, outstanding assistance to complete needed certificates plans, support with paperwork for the program, and to facilitate my interaction with admissions office. Ms. Flores, help me to review, audit my degree plan,  to choose better courses toward completion, and graduation.

Uncover the best Faculty at El Centro College:

At El Centro College, the Information Technology I.T. faculty enlightened me with newer technologies.  My instructors provided the program knowledge, labs, and support I needed to secure my degree in Microsoft Server, and with this superb knowledge helped me to excel in my current position.

Today I am proud to say I am a System Support Technician in the Healthcare Industry, and currently specializing in Microsoft Networks. I really appreciate and credit my education from El Centro College in reaching my business and educational achievements.

“Mr. Burrell made his own success story, as a 100% on-line student(s) need to be self-motivated while taking on-line courses. With the many outside factors to distract him, a student needs to be self-motivated.
Franc was very determined to complete his degree.  As advisors we are here to support our students and encourage them; through guidance and direction with their courses and degrees. They "the students" are the ones putting in the time and work to be successful.  Franc is the rear and determined individual who knew his path, and how hard it would be to get there, his determination help him succeeded.”

Orlando Currie, Sr., was born in Philadelphia, PA, an inspired writer who loved the arts.  At the age of 18 years old, he went to Philadelphia Performance Arts Academy (1980-1984).  Orlando’s first play was “A Child Play” at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, which won a notable achievement award.

Orlando was always moved by music and drama, so he joined a ten-piece band.  He played for former U.S. Senator Huntz of Pennsylvania, who called him to Washington to write for an essay project – and his successful essay was called “Unemployment and How to Succeed in the Urban City.”

From 1987 to 1990, Orlando moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, and felt very concerned about Southern living and the hardships faced by families and especially children.  Inspired to write, he spent from 1992 to 1996 writing his first of many books, “Conquer and Endure”, an excerpt of which was printed in Reader’s Digest.  In 2001, “Conquer and Endure” won Reader’s Digest’s “5 Star People’s Choice Award” for the “Best Inspirational Book of the Year”.

Orlando moved to Miami, Florida, for a new job at American Airlines, for which he worked 19 ½ years.  After retirement, he continued to write articles for several community projects.

In 2007, Orlando moved to Dallas, Texas, where he met Ms. Leticia Grant, a well-known writer of  North Texas singer and performer who asked  Orlando to help her rewrite  and direct the play, “Prayer and a Change,” a story of a 12-year-old prostitute who finds God.  The play production also utilizes praise and worship, singers, and dancers.  Those successes have inspired Orlando to write and develop more scripts for play and cinema.

In 2010, Orlando joined the ministry through which he was ordained and currently serves as Associate Pastor.  Founding OMC Entertainment & Casting also in 2010, Pastor Orlando works to further the Gospel through the arts – using plays and musicals to reach new audiences with encouragement and the Word of God.  He now has CDs – his first Gospel single – which will be released on Seaborn Gospel Records.  He has also formed a non-profit called “Christian House” that will benefit from his work with and through his musical, drama, cinema, and theatrical arts.
Attended Ell Centro College since 2012, and studied Paralegal Program successfully, he earned his Phi Theta Kappa certificate in November 2012.  Now he is a member of the El Centro College Honor Society.
He said: “El Centro College helped me to think critically, and to move forward for better purposes in life.”
Orlando is an active member of the DECCA program; this program helps young people to become business entrepreneurs. “I would like to thank all my professors for helping me reach my triumphs,” he added.  Also, Orlando co-founder of Christian Legal O.M.C, which reach people‘s needs, providing Paralegals and Counselors in the Civil, Criminal, and Spiritual needs.
